Job Title: Senior Scrum Master/Strategy

Supervisor: Chief Operations Officer

Position Terms: Full-Time. Average 40 hours a week. Nights and weekends as needed.

Travel Requirement: Onsite; Minimal for training

Experience Required: 3 – 5 years’ experience leading and managing large-scale agile programs


The Senior Scrum Master/Strategy / Agile Program Coach will be part of a highly visible, strategic team highly focused on aligning strategic objectives with tactical demands. As the Senior Scrum Master/Strategy for the ART the position will:

  • Facilitate PI Planning
  • Be available as coach for senior managers, director/managers, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and Scrum Teams
  • Escalating impediments
  • Program execution of the value stream
  • Managing risk
  • Driving continuous improvement for releases
  • Provides guidance in different agile methodologies (Scrum and Kanban)

Essential Functions

  • Be available as an Agile coach for executives, program managers, POs and scrum teams
  • Lead any Agile cultural transformation by design and process adoption efforts within the delivery team and ensure they are aligned to organizational goals
  • Facilitate Program Increment readiness, fostering Program Kanban flow, Program Epic/Feature estimation, backlog prep and any necessary pre/post-Program Increment planning meetings
  • Facilitate PI planning events, such as Scrum of Scrums, PI Planning event, and Inspect & Adapt workshop. Establish the annual calendars for sprints and Program Increments
  • Facilitate program level collaboration and program execution, including coordination with other Release trains across the organization.
  • Provide input to avoid Program bottlenecks. Escalate impediments and manage risk. Coach teams to remove bottlenecks and guide them to self-organize
  • Aggregate and publish team objectives
  • Partner with Product Owners, directors/managers, EA, Business Owners and scrum teams to help ensure strategy and execution
  • Help organization to understand, assess and manage risks through data driven decision making
  • Coach leaders on scrum, Kanban and re-enforcing the rules of agile processes organizationally
  • Anticipate and meet the needs of the teams
  • Communicate issues effectively to directors/managers, Senior Leadership, scrum teams and Product Owners to ensure the timely execution of organizational objectives
  • Manages and optimizes the flow of value of the ART using a variety of tools and methods to ensure strategy and execution alignment

Required Knowledge, Skills & Attitude:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Allied Health, Health Information Management, Science or related field
  • 3-5 years’ experience leading and managing large-scale agile programs; including comprehensive experience as a business/process leader or as a leader in a functional role.
  • Certified ScrumMaster
  • Demonstrated a deep understanding of Lean-Agile methods and practices and skill applying them at scale
  • Preferred: Experience with Kanban
  • JIRA and Confluence experience
  • Demonstrated success in cross-functional integration/relationships and program execution
  • Solid understanding of application and execution of data driven strategy
  • Proven track record of being results orientated with demonstrated ability to achieve aggressive goals
  • Proven presentation and facilitation skills
  • Must excel working in team-oriented roles that rely on ability to collaborate with others
