Las Vegas, NV – September 4, 2014 – OPIE Software, developer of the world's leading software systems dedicated to the orthotic and prosthetic industry, today announced that it is merging Futura International Inc., another leading O&P-specific software company in the United States, under its corporate umbrella.
This unique union was announced at the OPIE Users Meeting held during the AOPA National Assembly in Las Vegas, but was highlighted for the entire industry later in the introductory event in the tradeshow hall that evening. The newly combined organization will provide a staff of over 65 people dedicated to helping O&P practices to better compete and succeed during this time of massive change in the healthcare environment.
"Our two organizations have been friendly competitors for the past decade, but it's really amazing how things work out sometimes," said Paul Prusakowski, OPIE Software CEO. "The OPIE Team has been extremely focused for the past few years on growing the number of independent O&P practices using our systems so that we could get to the scale where our software tools could really impact the profession. When Don presented us with the opportunity to talk about how we could work together, we realized that instead of spending resources competing with Futura, we could use those same resources to help drive new technologies to help both of our client bases. We knew that we had to find a way to make this happen in order to truly help the O&P profession take a dramatic step forward."
Both Futura and OPIE Software have grown dramatically over the past few years as the documentation requirements to provide O&P patient care have expanded. By bringing together the 980 locations utilizing the OPIE Software with the over 700 locations using the Futura System, the merged company can now leverage its development, support, and training resources to help thousands of clinicians, administrators, billers, practice managers and O&P practice owners more effectively than ever before.
"The continued development of technologies specific to the O&P profession is critical for the field to succeed as technology becomes the foundation for all providers in healthcare," said Don Bauernfeind, owner of Futura International. "We firmly believe that by bringing our two companies together, our clients have the very best chance to meet these new technology challenges as they continue to evolve."
Fortunately, the offices of the OPIE Software Team and the Futura Team are both in Florida and less than three hours apart. "We fully intend to find the best of both organizations and bring them together for the good of the entire client base," states Jon Shinn, the previous COO of OPIE Software and the newly named president of the combined software organization. "Both of these companies have been successful as separate organizations, so we are excited to see how we can use this merger to bring even better solutions to our clients over the next few years. There will certainly be a transition period, but we are dedicated to keeping our focus on our clients' needs every step of the way."
